A Contest of Nisse and Release
Known as the City of Tombs, Sijan is the most famous necropolis in all of Creation.
A large city dedicated to the dead, the Avarice River lies to its south, its west is dominated by great marshlands and its north by the giant wooded shadowland called the Black Chase. Directly surrounding the city are the Plains of the Dead, which stretch out for miles in every direction and are filled with tombs and mausoleums.
Sijan is unique among the Scavenger Lands for being historically neutral in conflicts, though the Deathlords wield great influence. The city exists as a symbol of respect for the dead, and the concerns of the living are not theirs. The living citizens of Sijan live below ground in Lower Sijan, while Upper Sijan, which exists above ground, is reserved for those who are no longer living. In Upper Sijan, the crypts are tended to meticulously by the morticians of the city both during the day and at all hours of the night.
Lower Sijan is organized into concentric rings and Sijanese families keep shrines to their ancestors and morticians can gather in great halls, all lit by glowing crystals, and the entire city is ruled over by the Morticians’ Order.
